Key reforms in the NDIS Amendment Bill 2021 were made, taking in the feedback from the 2019 Tune Review to ensure greater choice and control for participants.
👉 Participant Service Guarantee sets timeframes for decision making by the NDIA and sets strict service standards
👉 Commonwealth Ombudsman will report on the NDIA’s performance according to the Guarantee
👉 Co-design with people with disability and their representatives
👉 Participants will be able to make changes to their plan without needing a full plan review
👉 Flexibility in payments : NDIA can pay providers directly so that participants don’t need to pay and claim reimbursements
👉 Requirements to make appointments to the NDIA board will be extended to specifically include people with disability or lived experience of disability
Minister Reynolds hopes that with these changes, the scheme can “strengthen the person-centered focus of the NDIS”.
